Loved their pizza! They offer a bunch of square slices. We ordered about six different slices to split and taste— the Bufalina, bruschetta, cacio e pepe, poached pear, upside down and angry nonna. All slices were delicious and if not with a group you can easily get full with just one. Out of the six we tried, the bufalina and poached pear were my favorites. They were out of Funghi slices so I would definitely want to come back for that! (FYI it’s standing room only! Wasn’t really a problem for us but thought I’d mention it)
Standing only. Line to the door. Busy Sunday night but it actually didn't take tremendously long to get a Vodka square, a Poached Pear square, and the House Slice. The House is a good New York slice with some grated cheese and fresh basil. Solid. It's not Patsy's but if you're looking for a NY slice with a good crispy crust, this does the trick. The Poached Pear was tasty, sweet but not too sweet because of the gorgonzola, but maybe a little superfluous in this lineup. The life changing slice was the Vodka. Savory smooth sauce. Lightly chewy crust with crispy edges like a Detroit style. Absolutely phenomenal. Beware: the squares are filling. I definitely ate too much and if I could jettison one it would be the Pear.
Ok…I have to build a bit of suspense in the review because I simply don’t know where to begin. I’ve had pizza, and a TON throughout my life time & Mama’s TOO has taken the hard core dominance in my foodie heart. FANTASTIC. Simply, the softest yet crunchiest, thick crust (which is a favorite for me, I’m not the biggest fan of thin crust)with the perfect amount of air in it, making it an easy eat. We enjoyed the poached pear pizza which is what we will come back from when visiting the city again. The balance of sweet and salty is accomplished. We also indulge in a pepperoni & the bufalini (prepare yourself with a ton of napkins), with a nice classic bottled coke on the side. Truly the highlight of our NYC Foodie Haul. The space is simple and sweet, no chairs, just a bar that runs along the restaurant where everyone stand, indulging. The pizza is constantly fresh because the demand is evident. 11/10 I highly RECOMMEND!
I’m not sure what all the hype is about with this place, but here’s my experience. The spot is nice and very busy, with limited options available. The pizzas come straight out of the oven, which is great. After waiting in line for 15 minutes to order, I saw a fresh pie come out.a little smaller than the average size. There were two slices left, so I asked the staff if I could get them “just like that.” Instead, they took the slices to the back to sprinkle parsley and shredded cheese on top, making me wait another 15 minutes—only to hand me the same slices, now cold. The pizza itself tasted good, no complaints there, but why not just serve it fresh instead of letting it cool down? Overall, the place has a nice vibe, and the pizza is tasty, but I wish it had been hot when I got it. That extra wait for no reason was frustrating. Happy Sunday!
Finally tried the viral Mama's TOO! I specifically wanted to try the vodka chicken sandwich, which I ordered. The sandwich was very good...but I wouldn't call it mind-blowing. What I didn't like about it is how messy it is to eat. The whole thing was falling apart and really difficult to basically pick up all at once. That made the eating process kind of difficult and not very enjoyable since my hands were soaked in the sauce 😂 Would I stand in line for an hour for this sandwich? Definitely not. I was lucky that there was no line when I arrived (8pm on a Thursday). I DO want to return to Mama's for the pizza though - some of those slices looked sooo good and seem really original in terms of flavor! So I'll be back. The service was nice and efficient, but the space is quite small and there is only standing room to eat. There was a steady crowd at all times.
